Our kaupapa: Empowering wahine, transforming lives
At Wahine Rising, our kaupapa is the heartbeat of everything we do. It's our unwavering commitment to supporting women as they rise, empowering them with love, support, and a pathway to a brighter future.
Empowerment and Rehabilitation Programme
Purpose:
To provide women in the newly established Waikeria Prison section with trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and practical support, helping them build resilience, skills, and connections that reduce re-offending and support reintegration into the community.
Objectives:
Trauma-informed healing: Provide group and individual sessions addressing past trauma, mental health, and emotional wellbeing.
Education & life skills: Offer literacy, numeracy, vocational skills, and everyday life skills training to enhance post-release employment opportunities.
Whānau & parenting support: Maintain and strengthen family relationships, including support for mothers and children where possible.
Cultural responsiveness: Deliver Māori-led programmes and cultural activities to ensure participants’ identities and values are respected and reinforced.
Transition planning: Assist women to create realistic post-release plans covering housing, employment, education, and community support.
